The large coastal town of Port Macquarie lies in the Mid-North Coast region of New South Wales about 240 miles north of the state capital Sydney and roughly 355 miles south of Brisbane. The port is on the Tasman Sea coast and the town enjoys strong transport links via the Oxley Highway. The town has a population of almost 47,000 inhabitants and has its own highly successful racecourse which first staged racing in 1845 on a superior course 1 ¼ miles round with an uninterrupted view of the horses throughout the race. That inaugural meeting took place on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th August 1845, with results of the feature race on each day shown below. |
